Katie comes home with pain in her stomache and Nell rushes her to the emergency room. Once there, she meets a pushy receptionist and seeks a doctor on her own time to help Katie. The doctor tells Nell that Katie was using an IUD (Inter-Uterinary Device) as a form of birth control and will be okay. She is shocked to hear the news and so is the chief. The Chief leaves the hospital disgusted, but returns and goes to see Katie. He tells her what would her mother think about her doing that sort of thing if she was still alive? Katie tells him that she and her mother talked a lot about it before she died and she knew Katie had been using IUD'S. The Chief understands that he cannot protect Katie from IUD's and other sorts of sexual related issues, but tells her he will always love her.

Nikki's haughty sister and her daughter come for Thanksgiving dinner and she bosses Nikki around which Nikki uncharacteristically endures.

After the station receives a bomb threat, Andy sends Johnny and Venus to broadcast from the transmitter tower while the station is being searched.

Andy is unable to warn Johnny and Venus when he realizes that the bomb is at the transmitter.

Robert hopes a stray mutt will replace Nicholas' imaginary friend -- if they can keep the pup hidden from pooch-hater Jerri. In this pilot we meet Al and Peg Bundy, a very dysfunctional Chicago family. In the pilot, Al and Peg, who have no friends, meet their new neighbors Steve and Marcy Rhoades. Steve and Marcy are a very happily married couple until they learn from the Bundys.

Al and Steve draw closer together when they try to restore a 1965 Mustang. Peg and Marcy on the other hand can't stop from despising their husbands.

Al fails his test for renewing his license on the same day Kelly gets hers.

Peg meets and old rival from high school and their two families face off at a bowling match to see who the real loser is. With the Bundy team being one player short, Steve has to step in to help.
