It is confirmed from various sides that this is indeed the case and slavery is confirmed by statements from escaped child slaves. Slavery is a serious crime in the Netherlands and purchasing products made from slaves is tantamount to fencing under Dutch law. By buying chocolate, says Teun van de Keuken, he is guilty of a criminal offense. For that reason, he wants to report himself to the judicial authorities in order to expose the disinterest of consumers and the cocoa industry.
