After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Kenji Amoh is sent to an internment camp where Japanese-Americans must declare sole allegiance to the U.S. or Japan.

Kenji visits Hiroshima in the wake of the atomic bombing. Later, he suffers emotional exhaustion when he is assigned to interpret at the Tokyo Trial.
