Tsubasa determined the identity of the giant tiger apparition “Kako,” and writes one long letter. The letter was addressed to Black Hanekawa, the apparition that could be described as her other personality.

Koyomi and Ougi find themselves trapped in a classroom, and the story shifts back to the point when Suruga introduces Ougi to Koyomi. Ougi approaches him with a mystery about a room not seen in the school's blueprints for them to investigate. When they enter the room, they find themselves trapped inside, leading them to their current situation. While talking about their predicament, the duo realize that the room is an oddity created by a traumatic memory from Koyomi's freshman years. Koyomi then tells Ougi that two years prior, the class president at his and Hitagi's class at the time, Sodachi Oikura, was looking for possible culprits of cheating on a math test, and would not allow any student to leave class until a culprit was found. Ougi surmises that they themselves won't be able to leave the room until the two-year-old mystery is solved.

Uncomfortable after quarreling with his sister on Mother’s Day, Koyomi leaves the house. Hitagi bumps into him at the park and makes an offer.

The first day of the second trimester, Tsubasa Hanekawa chats with the ghost girl Mayoi Hachikuji en route to school. Right afterwards, she witnesses a giant “tiger” apparition. Later that day, her house completely burns down from a fire.

The five girls' problems with supernatural beings have been solved, and it's now summer break, with the culture fair over. Koyomi Araragi has two little sisters, self-proclaimed "heroes" nicknamed the Fire Sisters, Karen and Tsukihi.

Araragi and Hanekawa visit Oikura and learn the painful story of her family's past.

Koyomi takes Hitagi to consult Meme Oshino, the wandering expert on supernatural oddities. Meme provides advice to them on exorcising apparitions.

In the aftermath of the previous day, Araragi is about to enter his classroom when Hanekawa informs him that a student absent all year is finally attending. The story pushes further into the past, as more of “what” makes Koyomi Araragi is revealed.

Having rediscovered the room on the second floor of the ruined house, Koyomi tells Ougi of the events that happened there five years earlier.

Nadeko comes to thank Koyomi, and the two geek out over a shared interest. Tsubasa Hanekawa passes by and suddenly complains of an acute headache.

Hanekawa reveals her concerns about Ougi as she and Araragi go to visit Oikura.

Koyomi is confronted by Shinobu's first minion, the original apparition killer. But instead of starting a battle, the samurai makes a simple request.

This episode is a pastiche of parodies about foreigners and Japanese attitudes concerning them. A foreign student named Kaere Kimura transfers into the class. Kimura is a blonde girl with multiple personality disorder stemming from cultural identity confusion. Nozumu prevents her from committing suicide but sees her underwear and is sued. While Nozomu is absent from school Chiri investigates his students and discovers that Maria is an illegal immigrant.

Kafuka comes down with a cold during the summer and has to go see the doctor, Mikoto Itoshiki, who happens to be Nozomu's brother. Later, Chiri and Kafuka find out from Mikoto that Nozomu has gone back to his hometown in Kuraizawa for an arranged marriage. One way or another, the girls somehow all end up arriving at Kuraizawa, where they are taken to the Itoshiki residence by Tokita. Here they find out that the Itoshiki tradition for arranged marriages simply involves both parties exchanging eye contact. The rest of the episode involves Nozomu and his attempts to avoid eye contact with the girls and various other people/objects.

Koyomi Araragi waits in the ruins of the cram school to ask Suruga Kanbaru for help, a request he hopes she will refuse.

After a hurried departure from the cram school ruins, Koyomi and Suruga head toward the meeting place, only to encounter some difficulty along the way.

Having finally arrived at the meeting place, Koyomi and Suruga find an unexpected person waiting for them. Before their reunion can take place, they must face an unexpected foe!

The group relocates to the North Shirahebi Shrine where Izuko Gaen tells them the story behind the location and the effect Shinobu's first minion had on it.

Karen is acting clingy and very cute, completely out of character. But its a trick to get Koyomi to introduce her to Kanbaru. In response, he devises a test Karen must pass; a test involving her toothbrush.

The episode begins with Nozomu announcing there will be a cultural festival, which he decides to not participate and explains that they are not cultured people, believing that they will grow to be bad people if they do pretend they are. The second part of the episode starts with the class taking a field trip preview, where Chiri make a large itinerary guide of the place. They move quickly all over Kyoto until they come to a temple. There the monk enlightens them about the use of preview. The episode ends with Nozomu take Chiri to visit his preview funeral and gravesite, where she gets angry and hits him, sending him to the hospital and putting him in a coma (which Kafuka calls a "preview of the afterlife").
