Het team van Hannah Maes wordt opgeroepen nadat de veertienjarige Pieter Verhaelen een zelfmoordpoging heeft ondernomen. Via Guy Terlingen, zijn leider bij de jeugdbeweging, komen ze te weten dat Pieter seksueel misbruikt werd en dat dit waarschijnlijk de aanleiding is voor zijn wanhoopsdaad. Hannah sluit niets uit en naast de rol van Guy onderzoekt ze ook een spoor dat leidt naar Jef Denolf, een uitgetreden priester die een verleden van kindermisbruik met zich meedraagt. Ondertussen zet commissaris Mark Vermaelen Charles op een andere case omdat hij van mening is dat de ervaren speurder te emotioneel betrokken is bij de zaak. Nadat Hannah de schokkende dvd van haar vader onder ogen heeft gekregen, leidt haar queeste haar naar een nieuwe climax.

De 20-jarige Elke Verbiest is het slachtoffer geworden van een gruwelijke groepsverkrachting en is daarna voor dood achtergelaten. Hannah Maes en haar team zetten alles op alles om de zaak op te helderen en komen op het spoor van instelling De Oase en oprichter Jules Uitdenhouwe. Wanneer Hannah en Bob een kijkje gaan nemen in de instelling lopen ze er ook Vicky Renders tegen het lijf. Omdat er verschillende DNA-sporen gevonden zijn bij Elke, wordt de zaak steeds complexer. Hoewel Hannah ervan overtuigd is dat Jules meer weet over de zaak, lijkt het onderzoek hen te leiden naar Gunther Devalck. Terwijl Hannah vreest voor het geesteswelzijn van haar vriendin Vicky, neemt haar eigen queeste haar steeds meer in zijn bezit. Samen met Koen waakt ze immers dag en nacht bij haar afkickende vader Robert.
