Mike Holmes has helped hundreds of homeowners over the years, but now the homeowner who needs his help is his son MJ. MJ wants to renovate his tiny bungalow so he and his girlfriend Lisa can have a place of their own to start a family. Of course, MJ’s modest renovation plans are turned upside down by Mike’s ambitious plans.

Tensions run high as Mike and MJ engage in a revolving door of disagreements over hardwood flooring, exterior brick, and a lively debate about dishwashers. MJ and Lisa prepare for a romantic weekend getaway. Meanwhile, Mike takes over the job site, with some frustrating consequences for MJ.

MJ transforms the two-car garage into a functional and appealing workshop and living space.

Trusses go up at the river house until MJ learns that the permits for the new build have not yet been approved. Mike goes to the council meeting hoping to hear good news, but it's a waiting game in the meantime. Back at the country house, Mike and MJ welcome their designer BFF Sarah Richardson, who offers some good advice. MJ starts getting pre-wedding jitters as his big day approaches.

The leaching bed is replaced at the country house, and work progresses until Mike and MJ find out an open permit remains on the barn. Back at the river house, Mike decides to hire a designer for the first time, but he has a tough time handing over some control to a new member of the team. And the big day finally arrives when MJ and Lisa get married in a picturesque setting -- as long as the pounding rain holds off.

Mike and MJ are welcomed back to the River House by a river of muck! The deck posts and windows are installed as the Holmes men rush to get the house closed in before winter. And after looking at, and purchasing, their next property, Mike throws a monkey wrench into their renovation plan -- and budget.

Mike’s open concept vision for the Suburban House hits a structural snag. Will MJ be able to rein him in or will the budget take another huge hit? Thankfully the kitchen layout is something they can both can agree on. A major issue arises for the deck at the Country House. And over at the River House, the fun doesn’t last for long as Mike throws another curveball at MJ -- one that could have serious repercussions for their business plan.

Meanwhile, over at the Suburban House, the Holmes men use some cool technology to improve the energy efficiency of the home. While the push is on to get the interior of the River House completed, there is added pressure for MJ who wants to surprise his dad with the finishing touches.

With the interior of the River House complete, it’s time to focus on the other two properties. Mother nature prevents work at the Country House, so it’s all hands on deck over at the Suburban House. With the open house fast approaching, Mike, MJ and the crew work feverishly to get the smart home ready. There’s a lot on the line -- will all their hard work pay off? Will the home’s new value be the amount they’re hoping for?

Time is money, and there is still a ton of work to be done before they can put the sign up on the lawn and get the house on the market. Mike and MJ race to complete the landscaping and up the curb appeal for potential buyers, all while finishing the interior to Mike’s exacting standards. Will the past year be a profitable one?

Later, Sherry meets with two apprentices to add to the crew.

The Flood House is close to completion, and the showpiece gas fireplace with a custom mantel brings one of the homeowners to tears; more structural issues arise at The City Barn, creating greater challenges than Mike and the team expected.

Mike and the team begin a third project and declare it The Toxic Townhouse after a home inspection uncovers terrible toxic elements and a dangerous pipe issue; then, the team makes another disturbing discovery at The City Barn.

Police are called to investigate after Michael makes a startling discovery at The City Barn. Then, Mike reveals all the Toxic Townhouse's issues to its owners, and the family's newest addition is introduced to the crew.

Mike and the team install a new furnace at The Toxic Townhouse, replacing the decade-old gas fireplace the homeowners were using to heat the home; The City Barn owners are welcomed home with a reveal that takes their breath away.

Mike and the crew start a new home that was left half-finished by a contractor, and they find problems behind the walls; Michael and designer Kimm go shopping for flooring with some furry friends; Sherry and Cali take baby steps getting to work.
