Ubaldo, an ex-military man who now works at a bank in São Paulo, heads northeast after inheriting land from the biological father he never knew: a famous cangaceiro. When Ubaldo is taken hostage during a bank robbery, he escapes death by offering information for a robbery. He is persuasive and the gang accepts his deal, as long as he can prove that he is telling the truth.

With Jeremías injured, the gang improvises an escape and seeks refuge in a farmer's house. Dinorah fights off one of the bandits after he attacks the farmer's teenage daughter. However, fleeing the scene of the crime, Lino is shot.

Leinneane's husband and his family, political opponents of Gastão, are accused of crimes against him.
