A Polish-American woman inherits a mansion in a small village of Wilkowyje. She arrives in Poland with a plan to renovate it.

Everyone in Wilkowyje learns Lucy decided to move permanently. The mayor and his wife plot to change her mind.

Lucy wants to take up teaching in a local school. Headmaster's enthusiasm about an actual American working for her clashes with mayor's strict opposition.

Lucy sees many problems in the village, all of which come from alcohol. She focuses on the illegally brewed kind first.

A flu epidemic breaks out in Wilkowyje. Witebski, the Polish teacher, comes up with the idea of starting a local newspaper.

Mayor fills the second edition of the newspaper with anticlerical propaganda. Lucy unwittingly starts a dog shelter.

County's matter

Lucy's shelter fills up. Kusy gets Witebski to issue a fake segment about the European Union household dog subsidies.

Double agent

Mayor spreads a rumor that Lucy wants to breed goats. Hadziukowa wishes to join the business.

Lucy asks doctor Wezół to do a lecture on contraceptives. Kusy continues the struggle to stay sober.

Lucy is kidnapped. Kusy gets the priest and mayor to act. Kidnappers' wives take matters into their own hands.

A supernatural event worries the village. Lucy finds a solution, but it requires the priest and mayor's cooperation.

A European Union delegation visits Wilkowyje. Due to certain circumstances, the priest will replace the mayor.

The mayor is sure he will win the oncoming election, when he finds out Lucy is a candidate as well. He sends a spy to join her committee.

Kusy and Lucy's intimate moment ends in awkwardness. Kusy decides to just stay friends.

Lucy is worried Kusy's painting will not sell. Mayor decides the open a club for the inteligentsia.

Japycz starts a protest on the opening night of the new club. Lucy learns about Grudtvig.

A bishop is due to come to Wilkowyje. Even the mayor is excited about his visit.

Mayor sends Czerepach to Brussels for training. He hopes the delegation will break his employee.

Więcławskis are a happy couple. All they need is a divorce to secure their assets and company.

Więcławski suspects his wife of cheating, so he gets the policeman to follow her. Kusy starts to make money with his art.

Devil's game

Mayor looks for a new county secretary. Priest witnesses a love affair between Michałowa and Japycz' brother. Pietrek comes home from England and gets a new job.

Autumn storm

Lucy hates to see so few people attend lectures. Solejukowa is fed up with living poor and waiting for social support.

University hall is merely full when the priest is teaching. Michałowa's fight with Japycz moves to presbytery.

Mayor uses his authority to seduce Violetka. His wife catches them red-handed.

Szymek passed his exams and is to be given a certificate. Solejukowa does not want to come to the ceremony. Czerepach's radio has another use.

Więcławska hires a new employee, whom Pietrek is impressed with. The bench regulars discourage the renovation team and have to do the work themselves.

Solejuk finds oil on his field. Afraid of the government seizing the deposit, he tries to sell it to Lucy.

Great discovery

Kusy and Lucy get in a conflict with the priest. Out-of-job Witebski has a downfall. Więcławskis daughter comes home.

The cause

Michałowa collects signatures to stop the priest from leaving. Więcławskis son-in-law is troublesome to the bench regulars, whom they consider a hallucination.

Counterattack

The new vicar is found to be very strict. He inspect the village and points fingers, especially at Kusy and Lucy living together.

Moral collapse

The vicar, Duda and Klaudia decide to set up a religious radio. Everyone is done with the strict priest.

Resounding gong

The vicar changes significantly overnight. Lucy fights unemployment. The Polish teacher takes his radio station back.

Understanding women

Hadziuk suspects every man around to be the cause of his misery. Mayor is terrified after getting summoned to the government. Witebski prevents a tragedy.

Several women come to confess with the new priest, who still opposes unmarried couples living together.
