Dinah's father is offered a job at the Biogenetic Research Centre (BRC), but the company has a familiar director. The Headmaster recruits Rose, a prefect from the school, to help him with Dinah.

A new computer game, Octopus Dare, craze breaks out in the school and everyone is playing it. When Dinah plays the game she wins and gets an invite to play in the games finals. Dinah begins to behave strangely and soon the game is all she can think about.
