Ryan's Palm Springs vacation home is the site of Kate, Danny, Michael and Ryan's best and worst memories together. A series of flashbacks reveal how each relationship has grown and deteriorated. Kate meets Ryan for the first time. Danny invites his boss Paul to Palm Springs to schmooze. Michael meets Ryan's ex-boyfriend Adam during Ryan's birthday pool party. Michael makes a discovery that changes everything.

Kate accompanies Michael on a trip to Seattle for a bookstore signing event. But when Michael learns the big secret Kate's been keeping from him it leads to unexpected trouble with airport security.

Michael's mother Annie and his brother Jacob visit Michael from Boston for Thanksgiving. Kate attempts to host the perfect Thanksgiving dinner for Michael and his family, but secrets threaten to ruin the holiday and a physical altercation ensues between Danny and Jacob.
