Just when Cooper has moved back from China to be with Gabi, Josh decides he needs to confess something to her. Meanwhile, Elliot's boyfriend, Alan, delivers some unexpected news and then follows it up with an even more shocking surprise.

Josh's father Matt contacts his son for the first time asking to meet. When Josh refuses, assuming his father is only after his money, Gabi takes matters into her own hands. She arranges to meet Matt and discover his true motives, but as usual, things don't go as planned. Meanwhile, Yolanda is convinced she'll die at the same age as her mother, so she goes on a strict diet - but it's Elliot who may be at risk.

Elliot and Alan's wedding is right around the corner, and despite Elliot's misgivings, the couple asks Gabi to make some whimsical appetizers for their special day. When Josh's flaky younger brother, Jake, shows up for an unexpected visit and announces he wants to be a chef, Josh hires him to help Gabi with wedding prep. But as sparks fly between the two, Josh realizes what he's done and goes to great expense to separate the budding lovebirds. Elsewhere, Yolanda panics when she misplaces Elliot's wedding ring while one of the grooms feels left out of his own nuptials.

Mr. Sheffield and C.C. are going to Boston for the weekend, but what originally started as a romantic getaway plan for C.C. turned into family weekend thanks to Niles. Fran, Maggie and Niles have the house to themselves, and Fran decides to throw a singles party at the house to fish an eligible bachelor. But the party is over when an undercovered cop shows up and arrests Fran for not having the required licenses. After spending the night in jail, Fran returns home and Mr. Sheffield almost fires her, if it wasn't for Maggie stepping in and taking the responsibility for the mess. Fran goes to court, but Mr. Sheffield shows up in the last minute to help her from her senile lawyer, Uncle Mannie.

Fran moves to her mom's because she doesn't want Maxwell to see her 24 hours before the wedding. Maxwell's sister arrives for the wedding and says their mother is not coming because she doesn't like Fran, which concerns Maxwell, but after awhile he gets over it, after realizing that it's not important. Fran goes to Jersey to pick up her sexy white negligee that she had ordered specially for their wedding night. On their way back, Val's car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, and Sylvia, Val and Fran have to spend the whole day waiting for someone to rescue them. Maxwell is visited by a very special someone: Sara, his late wife, who comes to wish him a happy marriage and confess that she sent Fran into their lives. Val's mother call Maxwell and goes to rescue them.

Gabi heads to the desert on what should be the greatest road trip ever, but she can't seem to leave her mixed feelings behind. When she hits a bump in the road, Gabi must do what she does best in order to save the trip. Back in the city, Elliot and Alan cut their honeymoon short, forcing Yolanda to step in as marital counselor in hopes of ending the newlyweds' lovers' quarrel. Meanwhile, Josh's chances at love may have just literally passed him by.

When her mother throws her father out of the house, Fran seeks advice from her grandmothers. She also thinks that Mr. Sheffield needs a change in his life.

Finally, after 5 long years, the wedding day has arrived. Fran spends her last night as a single woman at her mom's house, where Sylvia reads her a letter she wrote to Fran when Fran was born. They both cry. Just a few moments before the wedding, Maxwell's sister Jocelyn tells Fran that the social differences between she and Maxwell will ruin their marriage as it did to hers. At the ceremony, Ms. Babcock tries to give it one last shot and pretends being the bride, but it doesn't work. Fran doesn't show up at the altar, leaving everybody apprehensive about what happened to her. Sylvia goes to her dressing room and finds Fran crying on the couch. Maxwell arrives and Fran tells him that their marriage will never work and decides it will be better if they cancelled it.
