When Jane, Rogelio and Alba learn what is going on with Xo, they all try to comfort her, but Xo insists they let her live her life. Rogelio finally gets River Fields to agree to meet with him, but he learns that River has another plan in mind. Rafael is on a mission to find his sister who may have the information he has been looking for. Meanwhile, Jane is upset with Petra after her girls spill a secret to Mateo.

Clare and Amy attend a writer’s retreat, but when Amy gets great news, Clare can’t help but question if her sacrifices for Danny and their family have been holding her back. As she remembers her first marriage to Jess, she wonders: should she stay or go?

When Jane learns that Rafael introduced Mateo to his new girlfriend, Katherine, without her consent she gets angry since she thinks Katherine has a negative influence on both Rafael and Mateo. Jane turns to Petra for help with the situation with Rafael, but Petra makes Jane an offer she can't refuse. Now that the baby is born, Rogelio and Darci struggle to choose a name for the baby they both agree on. Meanwhile, Xo is focused on growing the dance studio and decides to go into business with an unlikely foe.

Jane is excited for her first book tour and brings Xo along for fun, but Alba decides last minute that she is going as well. Things take an unexpected turn at their first stop which makes all three ponder what they should do. Rafael and Rogelio's attempts to take care of Mateo while Jane is away hits a bump, but ultimately might have made things better between them. Meanwhile, Petra thinks she has finally gotten a handle on the hotel, until a new problem arises.

Jane is finally ready to get back in the dating game so she enlists the help of Rafael and Petra. Alba takes Xo and Jane’s advice about being an independent woman when it comes to Jorge. Petra finds out that Chuck has been talking to the police, which could put her in hot water. Meanwhile, Rogelio is trying to settle his lawsuit in a hurry so he can start his new telenovela.

Jane must get over the newest hurdle in her life, which proves to be harder than she and Rafael would have hoped. Rogelio discovers that he and River are not as equal as he thought. Meanwhile, Jane and Petra must deal with the children not getting along with each other, which in turn brings up issues of how Petra and Jane feel about each other.

Jane is trying to go with the flow, so when Michael makes a suggestion to Jane which takes her out of her comfort zone, Jane decides to go for it. Jane struggles to adjust while Michael slides back into his old life. Meanwhile, Jane struggles with her feelings for Rafael.

With Jane and Rafael finally in a good place, they are concerned to discover Mateo's treatment might be a problem. Alba and Rogelio are worried about Xo's recent behavior. Meanwhile, Petra is secretly pleased when Rafael and Jane begin fighting over her.

When Jane’s editor pitches her a dark twist for her book, Jane begins to wonder if the same thing might have actually happened to her. Rogelio helps River bond with her daughter, but River once again makes things difficult for him. To avoid thinking about her career change, Xo instead focuses on trying to smooth things over between Jane and Alba. Meanwhile, Alba stands up to someone from her past, which helps Jane realize she should do the same for herself.

While Cam is in rehab, Jack is lured into a dangerous adventure by a new friend, Sadie. Also, Garrett and Alison work to silence a local reporter who is harassing the Hawthornes, and Brady makes a bizarre breakthrough in the Silver Bells Killer case.
