While walking above one night Vincent spots an ex-tunnel dweller, named Rolly. Catherine and Vincent try to help him. Rolly is also a piano prodigy or at least he used to be. Now he's a junkie. Catherine and Vincent attend a concert in the park from below. In the middle of the concert a rainstorm begins. Vincent tries to cover Catherine with his cape but she pushes it off and allow herself to get soaked. Vincent watches in amusement. After Catherine is soaking wet she crawls back over to Vincent and collapses laughingly into his lap.

Unable to visit Connecticut with Catherine, Vincent has visions of what life would have been like without him.

Winterfest is a celebration of great importance to those who live below. This is Catherine's first Winterfest. But this year Winterfest is interrupted by Paracelsus.

A stress-aggravated illness triggers Vincent's collapse. Vincent goes far back through the catacombs of the tunnels to hide in a cave. While in there he continually growls and thrashes about as if he's gone mad. Catherine goes after him because she says that she can't stand to see him like that. After all he is the love of her life.

Catherine finds out while visiting Joe in the hospital that she is pregnant. As she heads to her car in the parking garage she is kidnapped. Due to Vincent's recent illness he can not sense where she is. He knows nothing of the child that she carries. The kidnappers lock her in a cell. They want only the child. They think that if they take the baby they will get Vincent to emerge and that is exactly what they want. They continue to hold Catherine captive as Vincent frantically searches for her. It seems completely hopeless without his sense of her. Yet he vows to find her no matter the cost.

Rolley is shot while trying to rob a liquor store. He then returns below. Vincent destroys Gabriel's drug house. Vincent entrusts Snow's ring to Diana.

Valerie buys the Peach Pit After Dark from Rush. She threatens to fire Ray unless he resumes their relationship. Ray refuses to give in and decides to go on tour. Donna is furious with David for failing to defend Ray. Peter rents a motel room so that he and Andrea can have some privacy for their liaisons. Dylan rebuffs Valerie's advances; she tempts him by leaving a joint at his house. He tries to smoke it, but cannot light it due to heavy wind. Kelly becomes depressed after making the cover of Seventeen, as she fears that she will never regain her past looks. Steve and Jackie try to convince her to continue her modeling career. Kelly has a chance meeting with Allison's girlfriend Dana, who gives her the brush-off. Kelly tries to visit Allison at the burn center, but she refuses to see her. Kelly talks to Dana's new girlfriend, who reveals that Allison dumped Dana because she is in love with Kelly. Allison calls Kelly and asks to see her after she is released from the hospital. Ray returns to town, and LuAnn gets drunk before his first performance. David and Clare take her home, and she babbles about Ray's affair with Valerie. David and Clare confront them, but decide not to tell Donna. Charley grows tired of seeing Dylan moon over Kelly; he encourages him to make a move. Jesse is offered a clerkship in Boise. Donna, Kelly, Clare and Valerie try out for the Tournament of Roses Court. The other girls only wish to secure invitations to a ball, but Donna elects to proceed with the tryouts. Felice does not approve of this decision, leaving Donna confused. Colin opts out of the party to work on his mural, but later shows up with Valerie. Kelly throws a hissy fit before Colin explains that nothing is going on. Brandon and Susan cover the Rose Court tryouts for the newspaper, and attend the party together. When they return to the newsroom, Susan grabs Brandon and kisses him. Steve pretends to be sensitive as he woos a woman in a chat room. Clare asks Steve to escort her to the ball. He cuts the date short to meet with his on-line sweetheart, only to find out that it is Clare! Donna and Ray miss the ball because he has to perform at Jessica's birthday party. Toni surprises Dylan when they go motorcycle riding. Dylan admits to Brandon that he is falling for her.

Elliott goes to Joe's apartment (#751) because Joe's on a leave of absence from work in order to stop him from investigating Catherine's death. Elliott gives Joe the address of the building where Catherine was killed (1900-6th Avneue, tower off of 53rd Street) and warns Joe not to trust Moreno, the current D.A., because Catherine was betrayed by someone working in the D.A.'s office and because Moreno put Joe on a leave of absence and insisted that Joe stop investigating Catherine's death. That night, Joe goes to Moreno's office and accosts him. He also throws the address out at Moreno and gets a reaction! Moreno meets Gabriel and tells him about Joe's accusations. Moreno tells Gabriel that he'll handle Joe and dispose of Elliott Burch himself. Private investigator Cleon Manning (working for Elliott) is killed by Gabriel's hitmen as a warning to back off the case. Elliott has his first meeting with Vincent at the abandoned carousel in Central Park. Diana goes to Catherine's apartment and finds the secret entrance to the 'threshold Below' in the sub-basement of the apartment building. Diana brings the withered rosebush from Catherine's apartment back to her own.
