Ken and Lorna are looking forward to seeing daughter Rachel again when she returns from her gap year, but are surprised when she introduces them to her new husband - travelling hippie and huge goon, Cuckoo. Ken struggles to find something to like about his new son-in-law before being pushed into a somewhat radical course of action.

Ken is keen to lay down some ground rules for Cuckoo in the Thompson house and proposes a family meeting, but getting his own way has knock-on effects.

Ken has been nominated for Lichfield Lawyer of the Year. Unfortunately, his dastardly work rival Jane has been nominated too. Ken’s convinced Jane is going to win, until Lorna thinks of a way to fix it… Meanwhile, Dale is still enjoying his adopted home town of Lichfield and relationship bliss with Rachel - and he is thinking of taking the next step… Now Sid is in nursery Dale needs to think of what he’s going to do for a job, while Rachel is not ready to settle down. She’s still living with Lorna and Ken, tyrannised by her boss Nina and getting serious wanderlust.

Lawyer of the Year

Ken finds himself suspended from work and tries to engineer a way back in before Lorna finds out. Lorna tells a little white lie and employs an underhand tactic to get Sid in to an exclusive local nursery. Meanwhile, it's full steam ahead for Dale and Steve's new bar - unfortunately for Rachel. But with the meeting to confirm an alcohol license on the horizon, Rachel sees an opportunity to stop it from happening.

The Licence

It's an episode full of secrets for Ken when he complains about loud new neighbour Lloyd to the police, only to make great friends with him later.Meanwhile, Dale discovers that Ken has been suspended at work. Can Ken hide his snitching from Lloyd? Can he hide his skiving from Lorna?

Ken's New Friend

Ken wakes up trapped behind a newly built wall in Steve's Bar and is forced to wait it out till help arrives, with only Steve for company. Rachel and Dale grapple with a pregnancy scare while Lorna is surprised to find Dylan's new girlfriend is age-inappropriate - and worse still, an old friend.

Trapped

When Rachel says she needs more space, Dale takes her at her word and strands her in the Pennines. Ken has only a day to save his job but is forced instead to rescue his daughter - and worst of all, has to ask his son Dylan for help.

It's the big opening night for All Steve's Pals, with Dale determined to make it the best launch ever and show Rachel he's the kind of serious safe bet she can spend her future with. Rachel's work has thrown up a different future for her and she's forced to choose between Dale and a dream job in Sierra Leone. Meanwhile Ken, now fired from work, is a man on a mission - with one last roll of the dice to get his job back...

Ken is really excited about his long-lost sister arriving, but it turns out that billionaire Ivy Mittlefart might not really want to get to know the Thompsons at all.

Ivy Arrives

Ken is keen for Sid to go to private school, but Lorna is dead against it. Can Ken change her mind with the help of new family member Ivy? Ben introduces Tash to Rachel for the first time, and they get on like a house on fire. A little too well, maybe?

Ivy is getting to know the different members of the family, and discovers Dylan is running a weed farm in one of the properties he’s supposedly selling. Ivy sees an opportunity!

A strange old lady in a pub gives Ken a prediction - he will one day become a Lib Dem candidate! Could Ken's dream become a reality? Ivy decides to get involved.

Ivy gets the news that her divorce has come through. Steve takes it upon himself to cheer her up by throwing her a divorce party!

Divorce Party

A terrible misunderstanding occurs resulting in an untimely funeral. Meanwhile, a run in with an ex-boyfriend of Lorna's might be just what Ken needs to help his campaign.

Two Engagements and a Funeral

Ken is getting ever closer to becoming an MP with Ivy, never happier, directing his campaign. However, can a small boy calling him 'fatty' and an unwelcome stranger affect the final outcome for Ken and Ivy.

Cuckoo is every parent's worst nightmare - a slacker full of outlandish, New Age ideas. Ken is the over-protective father of a girl who's impulsively married an American hippie on her gap year.
