Claudia, Antonio's girlfriend, is accused of having tipped off the carabinieri and beaten by pushers, so much so that she lost the baby she was carrying. Antonio, who returns to the paper mill to take his revenge, is killed there: Marshal Rocca will not rest until he manages to capture the whole clan.

It is Rocca who discovers that the person responsible for the crimes is Luca's adoptive father, suffering from an incurable disease that made him lose his mind and led him to believe that his stepson had committed matricide.
