    ΚΩΣΤΑΝΤΙΝΟΥΠΟΛΗ στις αρχές του 19ου αι. Ο ΔΗΜΗΤΡΟΣ μιλά με τον Διευθυντή του, ο οποίος τον παρακινεί να ξαναπαντρευτεί. Το ίδιο βράδυ αποφασίζει να βρει σύζυγο και ζητά από την προξενήτρα ΚΟΝΑ ΑΝΝΙΚΑ να τον βοηθήσει. Εκείνη του συστήνει τη ΛΩΞΑΝΤΡΑ και, ύστερα από τη γνωριμία τους, αποφασίζουν να παντρευτούν. Στο σπίτι της ΛΩΞΑΝΤΡΑΣ πακετάρουν την προίκα ενώ τα πράγματά της μεταφέρονται στο ΜΑΚΡΟΧΩΡΙ. Τελείται ο γάμος και ο αφηγητής μας προϊδεάζει για τις εκπλήξεις που τους επιφυλλάσσει η μοίρα.
