Star, a tough-as-nails young woman who came up in the foster care system, tracks down her sister, Simone, and her Instagram bestie, Alexanndra, and together, the trio journeys to Atlanta with the hope of becoming music superstars.

While Star, Alexandra and Simone work on a demo for their chance to perform at a music festival, Roland Crane and his wife, Rose come into town, revealing a big secret that threatens to destroy the group. Star then goes to extreme measures and risks it all to try to get her music produced by Roland. Meanwhile, Carlotta and Jahil go head-to-head, each trying to keep their secrets buried as someone's life hangs in the balance.

When Star, Simone and Alex are invited to perform at a fancy charity event, Jahil puts Alex in the lead and strongly encourages Star to ditch Hunter. Ultimately, Star still manages to be the star, while Jahil dodges a debt.

Things get out of control during a rally Derek organizes in response to the sudden loss of a close friend. Then, when Star doesn't show up for an important rehearsal, Alex and Simone are forced to have someone else step in for her.

While still dealing with the repercussions of Hunter's death, Star goes to great lengths to assure that the group gets a release date for their album. A frustrated Simone struggles with bullying and Alexandra moves in with Derek despite the hardships they've experienced. Meanwhile, Carlotta faces difficult decisions when it comes to managing the group and turns to Jamal Lyon for advice.

After getting a glimpse of their local competition, tensions rise between the three girls as they work on revamping their style. During a neighborhood block party fundraiser, Hunter surprises Star by inviting superstar recording artist/producer Pumpkin to the event. Alexandra revaluates her dreams of stardom when her mother, Rose Spencer, shows up with an irresistible proposal. Meanwhile, Jahil explores a new opportunity and Cotton agrees to meet with Pastor Harris, hoping to mend her relationship with her mother.

As the girls get ready for Atlanta Next Fest, a shocking development puts the group and their dreams in jeopardy. Meanwhile, Carlotta and Cotton are still at odds, but when a secret comes out, it changes things forever and the girls learn some shocking news.

Star struggles to juggle Davis and her career, and clashes with Noah's mom, Dianne. Meanwhile, Alex plans for her future and Simone doubles down on her activism, which puts Angel in danger.

With all of the flack the label is catching from the tragic police incident, Ayanna must quickly restore Midtown's image. Desperate for a spot in the showcase, the girls work on convincing hot recording artist Joyce Sheree to sing a featured verse on one of their songs. Carlotta continues to fight for custody of Simone, a misleading photo of Noah and Alex goes viral and Cotton juggles two relationships. Meanwhile, Brody's motivation for his return to Atlanta is revealed.
