Fredenslund is being renovated, and Ms. Madsen is very unhappy about all the noise. A routine surgery goes mysteriously wrong - to Dr. Neumann and Anna's great dismay and surprise. While Nina tries to hide how far along she is in her pregnancy, Bent tries to come up with names for the baby. An old friend of the Matron is admitted, but he doesn't want the Matron to know.

After a month in the radium department, Marie finally returns to wing B exhausted - along with Bjørn, no less. But her happiness is short-lived, as Ms. Madsen intervenes to send Marie back to the radium department, where her health begins to deteriorate. Bjørn goes to extreme measures to help her. Birgit is ready to return to work as a stewardess, but things don't go according to plan. And Ruth feels passed over, while the Matron starts to question whether she made the right decision.

Else is put in charge of a young girl suffering from abdominal pain, and looks on in envy as the girl is showered with gifts from an American soldier. So when an opportunity presents itself, Else helps herself to the spoils. Dr. Friis' parents come for a visit, but leave both Dr. Friis and Lis feeling hurt. Peter helps a visually impaired woman about to undergo surgery performed by the busy John. When Klaus is admitted again, Margrethe worries and urges the staff to find the cause of his symptoms. And in an effort to help Nina, John presents her with an even more difficult dilemma.

An advertising executive entertains the entire ward with the story of his injuries while waiting to be discharged. Unfortunately, he cannot be discharged just yet, so Lis seizes the opportunity to try her hand at a new line of work. Anna is saved from yet another sticky situation, but finds it hard to be happy and grateful. Bent plans a surprise for Nina, which doesn't go exactly according to plan. Aksel learns the truth about Michelle, and a desperate Else tries to get Finn's attention.
