Medical school drop-out Daníel begins his first night shift at the Shell petrol station n Laugavegur, Reykjavík. He then encounters his two fellow night shift workers, Georg Bjarnfreðarson the shift supervisor, a devoted communist, vegan with an admiration for all things Swedish. Ólafur's dreams of fame get a step closer when he has a chance to attend the X-Factor open auditions, though trouble brews when Georg refuses to give him the time off to go.

Georg gets a reprimand from his ex-wife for not spending enough father and son time with Flemming Geir. Ólafur becomes more irritated at the idea of the joint shift fund being used for a holiday to Sweden and Daníel bumps into a face from the past.

Georg's shift becomes more complicated when he is left to supervise his son Flemming Geir. Ólafur tries to get more time off, and Daníel spends more time with Ylfa.
