Ascânio decides to stay in Santana do Agreste and takes Helena with him. A year goes by. Timóteo uses Tieta's check to pay off his debt at the bank, but Perpétua finds out.

Ascânio arrives in Santana do Agreste. Amintas, Osnar and Timóteo tell him what happened to Tieta: how she initiated in love, the spanking she took from her father and how she left.

Ascânio proposes to Artur and Modesto to help him with the tourist complex. Perpétua and Tonha fight over Timóteo's debt. Letícia and Carol arrive in Santana.

The priest wants Perpétua to forgive Timóteo. Helena wishes to return to Rio with Ascânio. Elisa asks Osnar to help Timóteo. Colonel Arthur buys another girl for his collection.

Terto doesn't let Carol buy anything at his store. Helena has a crying spell over dinner and confesses to Ascânio that she is pregnant.

Helena leaves and Ascânio is devastated. Imaculada refuses to eat and is grounded. Carol runs into Modesto's wife and daughter in the square. Ascânio decides to go after his wife.

Perpétua wants Timóteo to sign a promissory note. He flees into the woods and sees the Woman in White. Pirica gives Carol a fish. Osnar pays Timóteo's debt.

Osnar gives Timóteo the money for his next month's debt. Ascânio finds out where Helena is. Carol and Osnar meet on the beach. Perpétua receives a telegram from her son Ricardo.

Ascânio asks Helena for a divorce. Osnar takes food to Carol. Filó leaves the door open and Imaculada runs away. Ricardo, Cosme and Ascânio arrive at Esplanada.

The priest forces Perpétua to authorize Terto to sell to Carol. Peto steals Ricardo's cassock. Imaculada is distracted looking at Ricardo naked and Trapizomba catches her.

The girls from the brothel try to grab Ricardo. Cinira gossips about Carmosina and Osnar for Perpétua. The hydroelectric plant warns that it will not send light to Santana do Agreste. Laura is attacked.

Laura believes that she was attacked by a being from another planet. Elisa dreams of Tarcísio Meira. Dário and Laura tell what she saw to everyone in the city. The extraterrestrial observes Bafo de Bode.

Osnar visits Carol and they kiss. Elisa tries to seduce her husband, but he complains about his stomach. Aída tells Modesto that Perpétua wanted to tell him something about Carol. Elisa disappears.

Perpétua calls everyone to look for Elisa. Modesto waits for Perpétua and discovers the box she keeps in the closet. Tonha meets Elisa. Tieta's check is not enough.

Perpétua accuses Timóteo of having embezzled Tieta's check to pay the bank's promissory note. Everyone sends letters to Tieta asking for news. Perpétua says that the sister died and can prove it.

Perpétua shows everyone proof of her sister's death. The priest agrees to say a mass for Tieta. The colonel marks the first class for Immaculada.

Tonha tells Zé Esteves that Tieta is going to discover all the lies they told. Imaculada gets sick. Ascânio is charmed by Leonora. Tieta tells Carmosina that she came back to take revenge.

Leonora and Ascânio talk for the first time. Filó thinks Immaculada is going to die. Timóteo and Elisa lie to Tieta about their son. Ricardo supports Tieta, preventing her from falling.

Laura sees Osnar leaving Carol's house. Tieta tells the colonel that he wants to buy Imaculada. Carmosina tells Tieta all the lies of Zé Esteves, Perpétua and Elisa.

Tieta faces her father. Carol meets Modesto's family. Perpétua asks Ricardo to do whatever his aunt wants. Tieta, Leonora, Ricardo, Peto and Cosme go for a walk in the Mangue Seco.

Tieta slaps Leonora because of the letter the girl received. Zuleika tells the priest that he wants to help with the feast. Tieta announces that he is going to buy the vacant land in Mangue Seco.

Tieta argues with Osnar over the Mangue Seco. Carol asks Osnar to find out who wrote to Aída. The colonel tells Modesto that he will buy the land before Tieta.

The priest accepts Zuleika's contribution. Aída tries to read the letter she received, but Modesto pretends to have an attack. Leonora asks Tieta to help Ascânio in the matter of light.

Aída is in shock after reading the letter. Ascânio has dinner with Leonora. Ricardo confesses to the priest that he is in doubt about his vocation and tells Tieta that he will leave the seminary.

Tieta offers his support to Ricardo. Leticia visits Carol. Aida receives another letter. Ascânio signs the divorce papers. Tonha wears the clothes that Tieta gave her and Zé Esteves is angry.
