Finals

With 70% of a nationwide vote, the Light Blue Team of Jon and Stacy Laymon of Ocoee, Florida, have won the eight-week competition that was Trading Spaces: Home Free over Angel and Vilma Rivera of Kissimmee, Florida. They won up to $350,000 to pay off their mortgage.

Whether or not they were winners, both the Riveras and the Laymons were the recipients of up to $27,000 in room renovations courtesy of their Home Free competitors. The first round featured a $2,000 bedroom renovation, the second a $5,000 living room redesign, and in the third, new appliances and other niceties resulted in kitchen makeovers valued at up to $20,000.

Paige introduces us to the 8 couples competing to get their mortgages paid off. Paige also tells us that the neighbors will approve the design, control the budget, & are in conrol.   Casting Call   Hundreds of homeowners with signs & costumes descend on Home Depot in Orlando, FL on a weekend afternoon in December. They think their trying out for a regular Trading Spaces episode (which is odd- TS was just there late last season.)   Strapped to a forklift with a bullhorn in hand, Paige tells the crowd the plan to pay off someone's mortgage.   To make the cut, you needed to test your skills in foot painting & toilet racing.    Some people even used small children to try to get picked.   At Home Depot, 3 skill stations were set up. At the 1st one, hopefuls had to pick fabric swatches out of a bag blindfolded, put them on a board & decide how they'd be used in a room. Imagine converting a child's room into a wonderland by simply applying a paintbrush and lots of imagination. That's what interior designer Frank Bielec does in this episode of Trading Spaces. Frank's childhood days emerge as he erects a swing and adds other childlike touches. Meanwhile, Hilda Santo-Tomas amazes her team by taking a dreary living room and making it brighter and livable without buying one single new piece of furniture. Athens: County Road

Trading Spaces tackles suburbia this week. In Alpharetta, Georgia, our team is challenged to create an entire room around one piece of furniture â€” a dining room table built by the homeowner. Hilda Santo-Tomas brings her elegant style to this dining room, using unique paint techniques and funky fabrics. Next door, a home office-slash-guest room is getting some much-needed help from guest designer Roderick Shade. A permanent desk area is built and a bay window is turned into a sleeping alcove. Alpharetta: Providence Oaks

Trading Spaces brings new meaning to the phrase ""getting your ducks in a row"" in this delightful episode. Two sisters trade spaces in an attempt to make both their living rooms more charming and comfortable. Designer Dez Ryan says nothing is off-limits as she converts a manly living room into a showcase suitable for both sexes. She even turns a duck decoy into a lamp! Hilda Santo-Tomas adds her know-how and produces a new room from old furniture, highlighted by using Brazilian leaves to accent an old armoire.

Lawrenceville: Pine Lane

The women take charge in this episode of Trading Spaces. Genevieve Gorder and Laurie Smith are the designers working with two sets of neighbors in Atlanta, Georgia. A 60-year-old kitchen gets a funky facelift when Genevieve decides to rip off all the cabinets and use open air shelving and pot racks to house kitchenware. The breakfast nook gets a new window bench with help from carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor. Laurie is busy next door trying to bring contemporary styling to a living room. Her biggest challenge is a glass fireplace surround that is the centerpiece of the room.

Buckhead: Canter Road

Remember when your home was decorated with mom and dad's hand-me-downs? That's what two hip Trading Spaces designers faced when they arrived in Washington, D.C., for this episode. This show is a retro throwback that includes a giant beanbag sofa and a lamp straight out of an old sci-fi flick. Designers Dez Ryan and Douglas Wilson assist two lovebirds as they trade spaces to make their digs more millennium friendly. Carpenter Ty Pennington assists.

Washington, D.C.: Cleveland Park

Look out Hee Haw, Frank Bielec is bringing his country flair to a kitchen in Alexandria, Va. Viewers may consider wearing sunglasses when Frank reveals his paint color for this family kitchen. By the time he's finished, the family can have a hoedown in their breakfast nook. Genevieve Gorder transforms an eighties-style living room into a modern gathering room by taking apart a modular entertainment center and turning the pieces sideways and upside down to create a different style. Black-and-white photos and bright, geometric shapes help accent this room. Carpenter Ty Pennington brings a hammer and some humor to this episode.

Alexandria: Riefton Court

Designers Genevieve Gorder and Laurie Smith keep carpenter Ty Pennington busy in this episode, which takes place in Annapolis, Maryland. Genevieve is ripping out carpeting and devising innovative ways to hang draperies while next door, Laurie is creating a hanging pot rack out of an existing light fixture and turning treasures from the basement into light fixutres.

Annapolis: Fox Hollow

Next-door neighbors trade spaces and styles in this episode from outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A pink and blue family room is given function and flair by designer Frank Bielec. Next door, designer Dez Ryan uses eclectic accessories, including a couple of her special lamps, and bold colors turn a conservative living room into a funky gathering room. Carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor builds a window seat with storage and radiator covers.

Philadelphia: Strathmore Road

Returning to Philadelphia, Trading Spaces finds two more sets of neighbors eager to transform rooms in the other's house. This episode features Laurie Smith and Douglas Wilson, with carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor. Laurie changes a formal dining room into a Greek-inspired space complete with a plaster bust. Douglas is working on brightening up a morning room, complete with a bold pattern on the painted floor.

Philadelphia: Valley Road

Is it possible to fill a room with furniture and fresh design in two days for only $1,000.00?Designer Hilda Santo-Tomas gives it a shot in this episode. Newly constructed furniture and the use of fun fabrics help complete the redecoration of a dining/living room area. Across the street, Genevieve Gorder plans to create a new space out of an existing space with the help of carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor. Genevieve's design includes unique art that doubles as lighting.

Philadelphia: Galahad Road

What happens when you have a big basement with multiple uses? Call Frank Bielec and let him go to work to tie it all together. Using shelves, room dividers, and vivid colors, Frank creates a playroom, office, and living area all in one room. Meanwhile, Laurie Smith is grappling how to add softness and function to a small master bedroom that's big on potential and short on resources. Both designers turn to carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor for assistance.

Knoxville: Courtney Oak

Trading Spaces takes its design crew to the historic Fourth and Gill district of Knoxville, Tenn., for the premiere episode, featuring designers Frank Bielec and Laurie Smith. The teams are not only neighbors, they're good friends. Let's hope the friendship can survive new upholstery as each moves in to the other's home for 48 hours to redecorate one room. The budget is $1,000 and everything in the room is fair game for change. From fabrics and furniture to flooring and fixture, our designers will join the neighbors in a race to redecorate. Historic homes are in for a hilarious redo in this episode featuring an industrial loft by Douglas Wilson and a retro, yet romantic master bedroom by Laurie Smith. Tune in to find out what happens when a Naval officer and his son team up against their new neighbors to redecorate each other's bedrooms in this sunny episode of Trading Spaces. Genevieve Gorder has a unique plan to ""bring the outdoors in"" using moss and slate. Across the street, Hilda tries to convince her team that lightening the room starts with painting it black! San Diego: Elm Ridge

In San Diego, we pull surfing best friends off the beach and into each other's homes for another redecorating challenge. A father changes places with his neighbor and daughter in this fun-filled, two-day redecorating challenge. Trading Spaces heads to sunny Florida where neighbors exchange a bedroom and a living room in a two-day race to redecorate. We try not to break things on Trading Spaces, but in this episode dishes are sacrificed to create a mosaic backsplash in a kitchen and across the street a bright yellow room is toned down using plastic wrap. In this episode, Douglas revisits his childhood while giving an 11-year-old a rodeo-themed bedroom, and Laurie creates a warm and inviting space in a previously unused living room.

When we visit the suburbs of New Orleans, we find an old kitchen and a master bedroom ready for some decorating help from our designers. Frank goes to work peeling off wallpaper and finds several layers and lots of damage when he does. New Orleans: Walter Road

Heads up! Trading Spaces is in the bayou, where Vern Yip gives brothers a soccer-fan's dream room and Genevieve Gorder creates seamless duality in a guest room/home office. Amy Wynn Pastor builds under-the-bed storage and mounted shelving.

New Orleans: D'evereaux Drive

Trading Spaces welcomes warm weather with sunny makeovers in Long Island. Genevieve Gorder lets the sun in to a screened porch using a Japanese tea room theme and Dez Ryan adds her own twist to French Country by bringing light to a neglected living room. Carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor builds a mantle, planter boxes and a serving bar.

Long Island: Shore Road

Mother-daughter teams trade houses to change both daughter's bedrooms. Designer Vern Yip tosses out the stuffed animals and brings in function and sophistication with velvet and unique lighting, while Douglas Wilson creates a relaxing, serene space complete with a 6-foot fountain with his team. Amy Wynn Pastor builds a television cabinet and bed frame.

New York: Sherwood Drive

Tune in to find out what happens when two different Trading Spaces designers come up with the same theme for living rooms in Long Island. Mediterranean colors and accents are used by both Douglas Wilson and Frank Bielec, with the help from carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor. Features plaster on walls, building a armoire, and recreating fallen Rome.

New York: Linda Court

While Ty Pennington and Alex McLeod search for the ""Jersey devil,"" designers Laurie Smith and Hilda Santo Tomas bring elegance to a dining room and master bedroom. An $80 thrift shop sofa is transformed into a settee in Hilda's house and Laurie uses fabric on the walls for a dramatic transformation of a dull dining room.

New Jersey: Sam Street

Laurie Smith brings order and style to a very cramped kitchen. Her changes include a new floor, new storage options, and of course new color. Meanwhile, Douglas Wilson takes a very large, very red room and transforms it into a rustic gathering place. Carpenter Ty Pennington assists by building a microwave cabinet for Laurie and a rustic candelabra/chandelier for Doug.

New Jersey: Lincroft Road

Small spaces are in for big changes in this final episode for the first season. Frank Bielec tries to incorporate a large collection of miniature houses into a living room and Vern Yip provides storage and soft corners for a baby-friendly living room makeover. Ty Pennington builds a sofa, ottoman and speaker covers and makes a bet with Alex about who will finish first. Tune in to see who wins.

It's all about love and art in this New Jersey neighborhood! Laurie Smith takes a cue from Henri Matisse in designing a colorful basement playroom. New Jersey: Tall Pines Drive

Goodbye ceiling fan, hello controversy! That's the drama playing out in this suburb of Philadelphia. Beth and Michael made their neighbors promise not to lose their bedroom ceiling fan. But Laurie Smith thinks some promises are meant to be broken! See what happens when her team learns about her ceiling-fan plan. Up the street, Genevieve Gorder's house is peaceful as she and her team transform a plain living room into an elegant and still family-friendly space. And carpenter Amy Wynn Pastor tries to strike a balance between peace and frenzy as she assembles a complex canopy bed.

Maple Glen: Fiedler Road

Time is definitely a factor in this episode, as Hilda Santo-Tomas and Frank Bielec try to give two old-fashioned living rooms some modern-day flair. Hilda pulls up carpets, paints walls and re-faces a fireplace while Frank builds tables and a dog bed.

Northampton: James Avenue

When you've only got 48 hours to redo a room, you probably shouldn't try to scrape wallpaper off walls that measure 11 feet high! But that's just what Genevieve Gorder has in store for her team as they remake a flowery master bedroom into a sophisticated love nest! Across the street, Frank Bielec is going arts-and-crafts crazy trying to brighten up a dark and tiny kitchen. Plus, he's trying to save money for a dishwasher! Amy Wynn Pastor is helping the cause by using as little wood as possible to build a new kitchen table for the room. If they can return some of the wood, they may have enough for the dishwasher. We'll see!

Providence: Wallis Avenue

It's all about girl power in this Boston episode. Designers Laurie Hickson-Smith and Genevieve Gorder race against the clock (and against each other!) to create two new bedrooms for a pair of 12-year-old neighbors. They get some help from the girls' parents and from carpenter Ty Pennington, who assembles a trundle bed in one room and a curtained sleep area in the other. Will it pass the 12-year-old taste test?

Boston: Ashfield Street

It's a whole new ""Old World"" for Hilda Santo-Tomas and Vern Yip! Our normally contemporary-loving designers go back in time to create two Victorian living rooms for these Massachusetts homes. Their plans mean big work for Ty Pennington, who builds a whole new sheetrock-and-marble fireplace for Hilda's room. And that doesn't leave him much time for Vern's projects! Springfield: Sunset Terrace

It's much ado about something as the Trading Spaces crew celebrates Shakespeare! Our Massachusetts homeowners are big fans of the Bard, and our design team joins in the spirit. Doug Wilson decorates a master bedroom with bookcases big enough to house all of Shakespeare's works. Down the street, Frank Bielec redoes a library room in colors to make reading fun. All this shelf-building doesn't leave carpenter Ty Pennington much time for reading. To be happy or not to be happy â€” that's the question for our homeowners!

It's all fun and games on this urban episode of Trading Spaces. Trading Spaces heads for the hills â€” the Hollywood Hills, that is! We sent designers Doug Wilson and Genevieve Gorder out to California to create new living rooms for some aspiring young actors. Doug goes a little retro, adding bold color and broad geometric designs to his space. Gen is a bit more subdued, with cooler wall colors and eye-catching fabrics. Handy guy Ty Pennington takes advantage of the desert sun to work outside on a new coffee table for Gen and some platform sofas for Doug.

Los Angeles: Willoughby Avenue

Our homeowners in this episode are taking a break from the beach to trade living rooms. Frank Bielec has some fun pulling up carpet and painting a rug image on the cement floor. Hildi Santo-Tomas does her own take on nautical by installing wooden strips on to the walls. Ty Pennington has his own projects adding a new serving counter in Frank's room and building couches for Hildi. That's couches plural! Ty's a busy man in this episode!

California: Abbeywood Lane

It's a struggle beneath the sunny skies in this Los Angeles episode. Vern Yip works hard to remove a built-in counter in his dining room. Designers Doug Wilson and Genevieve Gorder and carpenter Ty Pennington are on hand to help as the Delta Upsilon fraternity trades rooms with the Alpha Omicron Pi sorority. After assessing each other's digs (while the girls find the boys' place gross, the frat boys deem the female abode unwelcoming), the remodeling begins with the standard rules: two days, a $1000 budget and no peeking. The results are as extraordinary as the measures taken, which include throwing everything in the frat room out the window and lighting a bonfire of discarded stuff at the sorority house.

Berkeley: Prospect Street

It's kitchen chaos as two sisters take on the Trading Spaces challenge! Doug Wilson adds deep color and a new butcher-block countertop to one sister's kitchen. Down the street, Genevieve Gorder is tiling her own new counter top and using leftover butcher block for a kitchen island. It's up to carpenter Ty Pennington to get all this butcher block business complete. See if he gets it done.
