Spencer continues to try and prove himself during practices, which seems to go unnoticed, but when a fellow GAU athlete offers to help him form a different plan to get back on the field, he considers it. Coop begins a new job at a nursing home and gets some sage advice from an elderly woman. With the encouragement of Asher, JJ gets a tutor which helps him confront a vulnerable time in his past through his term paper. Olivia is frustrated with her living situation, but also finds some inspiration for her next article. Meanwhile, Laura forms a criminal defense law venture in the community but struggles to find her footing.

Spencer and Olivia are focused on pulling off the perfect wedding weekend; Jordan considers a new job offer, and his and Layla's search for a new home takes an unexpected turn; Laura and Grace go head-to-head to see who can write the best speech.

With Spencer, Jordan, Asher and JJ living it up at JJ's rented summer beach house, Spencer is trying to have fun, but he is conflicted when it comes to sponsorship opportunities he is presented. Coop and Patience take a big step in their relationship, but things don't go as smoothly as they had anticipated, and Olivia offers to help. Layla's dad give her a touching graduation gift that brings up a lot of emotions she wasn't expecting. Meanwhile, Laura is at her wits end and steps in to help Billy.

With everyone on holiday break, Spencer, decides to throw an epic Christmas party, with the help of JJ and Asher, as an excuse to bring him and Olivia closer. Jordan gets news about his hand, but he isn’t sure what to do. After weeks of research, Olivia and Billy think they may have a breakthrough on their investigation. Layla decides to take matters into her own hands to get her dad’s company back. Meanwhile, Coop feels replaced when Laura makes a change in the office, which makes Coop think about her future.

It's the start of a new school year and Spencer and Jordan are officially eligible to enter the NFL draft, placing Spencer at the center of the media spotlight; Olivia returns to Los Angeles after being changed by her time in London.

While trying to be all things, on and off the field, Spencer quickly discovers the rules he played by at Crenshaw no longer apply in Beverly Hills. Meanwhile, Coop is also forced to learn a new set of rules, with Spencer’s protective “Halo Effect” now gone.

Dillon is mad that Spencer hasn’t been around, so Spencer tries to make it up to him by having him help sell tickets for Coop’s show, but they find themselves confronted by the police instead. Elsewhere, Coop is shook when faced with Tyrone, but luckily she knows Preach is in her corner. Billy tries to force Jordan and Olivia to hang out with him and make memories, but all doesn’t go to plan, giving Olivia an idea on reporting injustices. Meanwhile, Layla bonds with a new friend who understands what she is going through, but she realizes that Spencer and Olivia are there for her, too.

Surprising news makes Jordan and Simone realize they might not be as prepared for their new reality as they had hoped. Now that Patience is back from tour, she and Coop can't seem to get on the same page when it comes to their relationship. Meanwhile, Billy, Grace, Laura and Principal Carter team up with an unlikely ally as they go on an adventure in the halls of South Crenshaw High to track down relics of the past.

With summer ending and their college football careers beginning, Spencer tries to adjust to more than his brutal workout schedule. Olivia is excited for her new job, but it isn't what she anticipated. Patience asks Layla for help with Coop in getting her motivated, but their plan doesn't go as expected. Asher runs into someone from his past and learns what has really been going on. Meanwhile, Grace joins the search committee for a new a principal and has someone in mind for the job.

With Spencer’s life hitting a rocky point, he takes some advice from JJ and Coop to embrace college life. Olivia and Billy’s suspicions about Coach Garrett resurface and cause tension between them and Jordan. Layla makes a power play that catches an unsuspecting Patience off-guard. Meanwhile, Asher struggles with trying to be JJ’s coach and maintaining their friendship.

New changes on the field create tension between Spencer and Jordan at the worst possible time; while working on her latest project, Olivia deals with the emotional fallout of digging too deep into the past; Asher loses one of his star players.

At an explosive homecoming dance, friendships in both Crenshaw and Beverly will be put to the test when decisions made by Spencer trigger an avalanche that drastically changes the course of several lives. Meanwhile, Billy finds himself forced to spend some quality time with Grace and defend his decision to marry outside of the culture. Meanwhile, Coop realizes that getting Shawn out of gang life may come at a steep price for her.

Billy and Grace are concerned that Spencer is going to push himself too hard before he is ready, which could make things worse for Spencer in the long run. Determined to secure their football future, Spencer, Darnell and Jordan decide to go on a college football visit, but Darnell’s chance might be taken away by someone close to him. Asher’s teammates and Olivia have been noticing a difference in Asher’s performance and attitude on and off the field, leaving them to wonder why he is pushing himself so hard. Meanwhile, Layla thinks she knows what she wants to do with her future and needs Coop to do it.

Both Spencer and Billy are not getting the hero's welcome they expected from the football team and quickly realize they need to adjust their style and start earning the team's trust first.
