After a fun-filled summer, the Gosselins are back to normal life. As usual, Jon and Kate prepare for the twins to head back to school, but this year they also must prepare as the sextuplets start their first year of pre-school! The girls get their hair braided and wrapped with colorful thread, which turns out to be more trouble than it's worth. Also in this episode, Kate and the kids make a patriotic cake that looks like the American flag to enjoy after their big seafood dinner. The kids get to play with sparklers for the first time and finish the day off with watching fireworks by a lighthouse!

At the ripe age of four, the sextuplets wonder where they came from and how they got a start in this big world. Jon and Kate decide to show them the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) where they spent their first several weeks. They meet the doctors and nurses who were there on their birthday. They'll even get to have a sleepover in the condo that Mommy and Daddy lived in during their stay in the NICU!

Jon and Kate decide to mix it up and go camping in their own back yard! In this episode, they must take the kids to a local sporting goods store to pick out their own sleeping bag and lantern and get enough tents for a family of ten!
