JAWS really set the bar high for shark movies back in 1975, and THE MEG tries to bring the shark genre into a new generation. It does this by basically having Jason Statham fight a 70 foot long prehistoric Megalodon shark in hand-to-hand combat. With a description like that, how did this movie manage to drop the ball? Why did the whole basis of his character make no sense? How did he “see” a giant shark BEFORE it was set free from the Mariana Trench? Why don’t we get to see a shark for like 45 minutes of the movie? Why does it feel like a high budget version of Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus or Sharknado?

1987’s Predator film starring Arnold Schwarzenegger is a classic in its genre, and Hollywood has been trying to squeeze more money out of the franchise for years. The latest attempt is called ‘The Predator’ and it stars Boyd Holbrook and Olivia Munn. A LOT of questionable decisions went into making this movie. Why does that Predator want to help humans. What’s up with the weird global warming message and Super Predators? Why does shooting a Predator dog in the head make it your best friend?

Steven Spielberg ventured into the world of Virtual Reality with Ready Player One this year, bringing us into the OASIS. Wade AKA Parzival teamed up with Olivia AKA Art3mis to take on the big bad guys from I.O.I in order to go on an Easter Egg hunt. This movie raises a WHOLE lot of questions. What’s up with the inconsistent VR tech? Why did Halliday try to get people to go into the real world by making them dive into the world of VR? What’s up with the thousands of pop culture references? Why are I.O.I. and Nolan Sorento considered super evil when the OASIS is ALREADY profiting off of gamers and taking over their lives?

The Nun is a spin-off of a sequel, so right off the bat you KNOW it’s gonna be good. Based on the popular Conjuring series by James Wan, the Nun takes us to Romania in 1952 to show us the origin story of… you guessed it-- The Nun. Sister Irene, Father Burke and Frenchie spend an unnecessary amount of time investigating the suicide of a nun as an EVIL nun plays super spooky pranks on them, but doesn’t kill them for some reason.

Coraline is the perfect movie for children. If your children enjoy movies where terrifying spider-needle-ladies want to rip your eyes out and replace them with buttons-- then trap your soul in their evil magic realm for so long you forget who you are. In terms of kids movies, Coraline is pretty much at the top of the list of the creepiest out there. So how did the movie come to be? Why is it is so weird and creepy? What’s up with Other Mother agreeing to vague plot device games? Or creating entities that have free will and an understanding of good and evil?

Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man 3 was such a disaster that the character has already been rebooted twice since the movie came out in 2007. From emo Spider-Man to Eric Foreman playing Venom, the superhero film was chock full of strange decisions from the filmmakers. What’s up with Sandman getting a free pass? Or Peter Parker dancing in the street to no music? Or that crazy church scene?

Venom starring Tom Hardy is dividing critics and audiences. While most this incarnation of the character is a big step up from the Spider-man 3 version, the movie definitely has its weird elements. What's up with Eddie Brock being invited to the lab by that scientist? Why did the Riot symbiote wander around Malaysia for six months? What the hell happened during that final fight?

LOGAN was apparently Hugh Jackman’s last outing as his iconic character Wolverine. Whether or not that ends up being true, it certainly seems like the movie wrapped up the storyline of the most popular member of the X-Men. But what exactly led to some of the stranger decisions in this movie? Like what was up with all the swearing? Or Logan’s plan to buy a boat for him and Professor X? Or X-23 only using her powers AFTER Gabriela is killed by the Reavers? Or the secret barrier that makes Canada incredibly safe?

Spider-Man fans were pretty excited when Andrew Garfield stepped into the role of Spidey with The Amazing Spider-Man, and apparently the movie made enough money to warrant a sequel! The Amazing Spider-Man 2 brought us a whole lot of villains and relationship problems, apparently learning nothing from Spider-Man 3. A lot of questionable decisions went into making this superhero movie. What’s up with Electro’s motivation and randomly fixed teeth? Why is Harry Osborn dying so much faster than his dad. Why does Gwen Stacy rush to her death?

John Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween movie introduced the world to the iconic serial killer Michael Myers, his crazy William Shatner mask, and of course, to Jamie Lee Curtis. The film revolutionized horror movies and spawned a ridiculous number of sequels, spin-offs and reboots. But what kind of decisions went into making the original? Why were there SO many lingering long takes and filler moments? How was Michael able to survive the crazy stuff that happened to him? What’s up with Loomis and the police not warning anybody about a crazy killer on the loose?

Halloween is one of the most popular horror movies franchises in history, so it makes sense that Universal wanted to bring Michael Myers back for another murder spree this year. This time around, Laurie Strode is alive once again and ready to take on Michael once and for all (until the sequel.) The movie raises a lot of questions, like why does it have the same title as the movie it’s a sequel to? Why does Laurie still live in Haddonfield? What exactly is her weird strategy with the lights? Why didn’t she make sure that Michael was dead?

The Nightmare Before Christmas from Tim Burton and director Henry Sellick is one of the most beloved Christmas and/or Halloween movies, depending who you ask. Jack Skellington is on a mission to appropriate the cool things he finds that don’t belong to him, and never faces any consequences for his actions. So what led to this bizarre stop motion animation featuring the Pumpkin King and Sally taking on the Oogie Boogie Man?

The Harry Potter movies were an absolute global phenomenon, so you can’t really blame Warner Bros. for wanting to cash in on that whole universe with Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them just a couple of years later. The studio brought us back into the wizarding world of Harry Potter with a new era, a new continent and a whole lot of magical beasts.
