A 10-month-old labrador needs a hip replacement before it can begin training as a medical-alert dog to help its owner with her rare health condition. An eight-year-old shih-tzu has the most extraordinary walk the vet has ever seen, but the operation to fix the dog's spine will be extremely risky, presenting the owners with an agonising decision.

Noel thinks it needs hip-replacement surgery, but owner Nigel can't afford to pay for the operation.
