Hooker, still haunted by the murder of his former partner five years previously, is determined to catch an unapprehendable band of bank robbers whose leader matches the description and tactics used by the his partner's killer...

Responding to a shooting at a cock-fight in China Town, Hooker thinks he catches a glimpse of a face from the past in the crowd. As he investigates the illegal dealing of automatic weapons in the area, the face turns out to be the daughter of a woman who he was once in love with, but had to cut off their relationship after her husband, presumed dead, had turned up alive. But now, the man is involved with the gun dealing, and sees that he has an old score to settle with Hooker...

Hooker, Romano, Stacy and Corrigan are staking out a small-time drug dealer when they find that a major drug supplier is involved – who is being staked out in a Federal investigation. Hooker is ordered to keep well away from anything to do with the Fed operation and any of the smaller dealers which may be involved with the drug ring, something which proves to be difficult and results in Hooker being suspended. But an old flame, who is a Fed agent, is undercover posing as the girlfriend of head of the ring, and Hooker, fearing for her safety, is determined to put the ring out of operation himself - even if it costs him his job...

Hooker, Romano, Stacy and Corrigan are involved in an undercover operation to nail a large cocaine dealing ring, when a highly respected fellow officer is killed, execution-style, by the ring, who are on to him. Tracking down one of the thugs involved, Romano is badly injured by a gun-shot wound, before Hooker captures the goon, who gives the lead of a crooked bail-bondsman who is involved with the dealing. Against the wishes of a DEA, Hooker and Corrigan go undercover as drug dealers, with Stacy posing as one of their carriers, to infiltrate the dangerous ring via the bail-bondsman and catch them in the act...

When a young female singer, whom Hooker has got cleaned up on a drug reform programme, is kidnapped, Stacy goes to work undercover as an exotic dancer at the club that they suspect to be a front for a white slavery ring that is dealing in attractive young women...

Despite being undercover dressed as Santa Claus, Hooker is finding it hard to get into the Yuletide cheer faced with his first Christmas away from Fran and the children; Stacy too, is low on Christmas spirit, after splitting up with her boyfriend. The Christmas blues set in even deeper when a drug stakeout doesn't go to plan, allowing the main target to get away. Later, after Stacy witnesses an armed hold-up by a man and woman connected with the wanted dealer, the woman is forced to abandon her young baby at a local church. As they try and get a lead on the offenders, Stacy looks after the young baby, but Hooker, Corrigan and Romano become concerned that she may be coming to attached to it too want to give it back...

A parking attendant's suspicion leads to the discovery of a woman's body in the trunk of a car, sending Hooker and the team on the trail of a psychotic killer who is on a cross-country murder spree. Meanwhile, the deranged killer lures a young woman into his clutches and takes her hostage, leaving behind her husband and sick baby. Hooker persuades the Detective in charge of the case to let him place a trap to try and catch the killer and get the woman back safely, but it places Stacy in great danger...

Hooker and Romano are just finishing working on a case with Lt. Paul McGuire, a close friend and colleague of Hooker's, when they respond to a reported rape - in which the victim turns out to be none other than McGuire's own daughter. The girl is certain that she knows the attacker and can identify him, but the attacker, a lawyer, uses legal loopholes to get off without charge. As Hooker tries to nail the attacker ""by the book"", McGuire becomes infuriated at the lack of action taken and takes matters into his own hands, endangering not only his job, but Hooker's case that will bring the attacker to justice in the proper way...

On routine patrol with Corrigan, Stacy is shot when unwittingly walking in on an armed robbery, leaving her hospitalised in a coma and with a bullet lodged dangerously close to her heart. With Stacy facing precarious surgery, Hooker, Corrigan and Romano search out the robbers, who are armed with armour piercing bullets. But Hooker's determination to catch the thugs, no matter what, sees him putting his career on the line...

While on a prostitution sting, Hooker spots veteran vice officer Daniels' car parked outside a motel, and goes to investigate just as the officer is shot by an assassin. Both the gun-man and the prostitute Daniels was meeting with flee the scene, and the officer's superior reports that Daniels wasn't there on Police business, and what's more, was found with money suggesting that he'd been taking bribes. But Hooker is adamant that the veteran officer is innocent of the accusations, and has two days before the funeral to clear the officer's name and find out what he was really doing at the motel. The girl Daniels was meeting with holds the key to the true circumstances, and Hooker forces her ex-roommate, a reluctant, wise-cracking ex-prostitute, into helping him track the down. But the girl is hiding in fear from the dangerous porno producer who was involved with the officer's shooting...

Corrigan and Stacy respond to a seemingly trivial call about an illegally parked vehicle, only to stumble onto an armed robbery of a check-cashing outlet. As Corrigan calls for back-up, Stacy intervenes in the robbery to stop a man from being shot, only to taken hostage by the trio of armed thieves. With Stacy held prisoner by the robbers, the head of the trio rapidly develops an ""obsession"" for her, much to the aggravation of his girl-friend, who is also one of the theives. As Hooker and Corrigan search for Stacy and the thieves, they risk taking on the might of City Hall when it becomes apparent that the father of one of the trio is involved in the Mayor's re-election campaign and is prepared to pull strings to keep the whole case quiet. Meanwhile, the trio's leader's obsession with Stacy continues to grow – and it is the only thing that is keeping her from being killed...

Pursuing a gang of robbers, Stacy receives a mild concussion in a shoot-out, and after being discharged from hospital, decides to take a break to go and visit her sister. But driving through a fierce thunderstorm and still in a slightly dazed state, she is involved in a minor road accident which leaves her with amnesia, and is taken in by a passing motorist who claims to be a local doctor. Meanwhile, Hooker and Corrigan become concerned at Stacy's sudden disappearance, and investigate a break out from a mental hospital where two dangerous patients have escaped - and unbeknown to them, one of the escapees is the man posing as the doctor who has taken in Stacy...

When a man attacks and rapes a young female jogger, Hooker and Romano find themselves on the trail of a serial rapist who has left behind only one clue: a size 13 shoe-print...

The latest victim of a serial murderer known as the ""Surfside Killer"" turns out to be a police officer. Stacy, a close friend of the murdered girl, fits the description of each of the killer's victims - young blonde females, and volenteers herself to work undercover to try and draw out the murderer. But Hooker does not have faith in the way the operation has been organised, and vows to watch over and protect Stacy himself...

Romano, celebrating his new Porsche sports car, takes Hooker out for a night at a dance club, but the car is stolen, hitting a gypsy king as it speeds away. The injured man and his 10-year-old niece have been tracking the thieves trying to recover stolen automobile parts, but they refuse to give any information to the Police. The next day, the man is murdered, but the niece once again refuses to talk. Hooker reluctantly releases the girl into the custody of her older sister, hoping that she might open up to her about the killing, but the young gypsy girl is determined to avenge her uncle's death...

Following an execution-style murder connected to a drug racket, Hooker joins forces with ex-partner and personal friend Jim Cody to solve the killing and put the drug ring out of business. But as they investigate the case, it becomes apparent that Cody's own daughter is a heroin addict and involved with key members of the drug ring...

While on a stake-out to capture a strangler who is killing homeless women, Corrigan receives a blow to the head while struggling with a suspect, leaving him with a concussion which triggers sudden, unexpected bouts of enraged behaviour. But the suspect Corrigan took on isn't in fact the strangler, and with the real killer still on the loose, Hooker and the team must track him down before he strikes again. Corrigan's refusal to acknowledge his condition doesn't exactly help matters...

Hooker's children come to visit their father, but the vacation is interrupted after Corrigan and another Officer unwittingly disrupt an armed race-track heist, which leaves Corrigan's fellow Officer dead. The robbers were under the pretence of being ambulance attendants, and Hooker has reason to believe that the robbery was an inside job; but the case means that his time with his cherished kids is limited...

The latest in a series of armed robberies on super-markets leaves a young cashier possibly paralysed when the thieves take her hostage and then push her from their speeding car to slow up the pursuing cops. The cars used by the robbers are specially modified "hill racers", leading to the local hill racing champion, an old friend of Hooker's, being wrongly arrested as the prime suspect. Hooker must prove his innocence by speeding after the real culprits...

Two armed juveniles rob a liquor store, and the ensuing Police pursuit results in an Officer being shot dead. Romano waits until the killer is out of bullets before he corners and apprehends him, resulting in a number of Officers being angry at Romano for not avenging their colleague's death. Hooker is torn as his partner is slated for going by the book and not taking the opportunity to shoot the cop-killer...

After a security guard is shot down when trying to stop a diamond vault robbery, the investigating detective is determined to prove that the guard had taken a bribe from the robbers and wants to nail him for aiding the thieves. The guard is an old friend of Hooker's who knows that his friend wouldn't have been involved. As he and Romano investigate to find out the true circumstances it seems as if the detective is willing to go to any lengths, including blackmail, to see that he is covered in glory for his busts and quickly fly through the ranks...

After a fatal drink-driving crash, Hooker and Romano set out to track down the gang who are making liquor robberies and then selling it to local youths. But Romano has a personal concern in the case when he finds out that the gifted son of a deceased friend from his time serving in Vietnam has fallen into the disreputable company of the gang...

On Stacy's first week of field training, Hooker assigns her to be partnered with tough veteran officer Jim Corrigan, who has low opinion of female cops after his former parter was killed while partnered with one. Meanwhile, Hooker has a personal concern in catching the culprits of a series of violent mini-mart robberies in a factory district, when his ex-wife Fran is badly wounded in a hold-up and is in danger of being left blind as a result...

Hooker and Romano by chance spot a van swerving dangerously over the road – in which a pair of teenage prostitutes are being held against their will by two men. When the van crashes off the road, they find one of the girls dead after being strangled – the latest victim in a series of killings by ""The Boulevard Strangler"" and his accomplice, who are prying on young runaways. Hooker finds that the surviving girl has run away after being abused at home, and leads a double life – a perfect high-school student, and as a prostitute. But now the girl is in danger with the killers after her, who are concerned that she can identify them in the murder of the other girl... Meanwhile, Corrigan considers leaving the force to take a job teaching...

The murder of a dancer who has had a lock of her hair cut off signifies to Hooker that a serial killer he pursed eight years previously is back in operation. Hooker is concerned for the only victim to survive one of the previous attacks - a dance teacher with whom he nearly fell in love - and sets about protecting her, believing that the killer will go after her again to try and finish the job...
